Vinyl Records keep Acland Streets Eclectico going through Lockdowns

LATEST NEWS

The vaunted revival of vinyl records has certainly kept one independant store in Acland St, St Kilda alive and kicking through all the lockdowns which have spelt disaster for many small retailers in Australia. Eclectico has managed to grow their online presence and are shipping their range of new and used vinyl records daily from their web-site and the discogs platform.

The owner Alan, who never gave up on vinyl having grown up in the 70’s and 80’s when it was the dominant format, started selling records around 8 years ago when the store was already 3 years old. This meant he was well-placed to ride the new wave of enthusiasm for the once thought defunct format. Eclectico specialises in all the music that Alan loves and with 30 odd years of travelling, festival going and live gigs, that is a diverse and eclectic mix. It encompasses soul, funk, latin, brazilian, hip-hop, 80’s, 90’s and jazz amongst many other things. In the used vinyl section there is anything from folk and classical to synthpop and disco through prog and rock and roll.

In fact anything he can buy in collections or auctions. He takes pride in making sure the vinyl is cleaned and graded correctly and if needed new inner sleeves and protective outers are added.

Of course the store has a lot more than records on offer and Eclectico has long been a hub for Melbournes festival-goers and alternative lifestylers for funky threads and beautiful jewellery.

New items are uploaded to the website on an almost daily basis and click and collect is available most afternoons. www.eclectico.com.au
