After careful consideration, the Victorian State Government has announced today that Melbourne Pride will now be held on 13 February 2022 – a move that will allow more people to participate as our state safely reopens under Victoria’s Roadmap.
We understand this news may be disappointing, but we anticipate the postponement will allow us to cater the event to include more people, meaning a bigger and better event.
Melbourne Pride will continue to be an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ Victorians and our wider community to come together and celebrate after a challenging period that has exacerbated challenges some LGBTQIA+ people were facing before this pandemic, including isolation.
“Melbourne Pride is about celebrating the progress we have made towards equality and reflecting on the work we still need to do together, and this timing will help us to make this the best event it can possibly be.” – Commissioner for LGBTIQ+ Communities Todd Fernando.
As the leading LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural organisation in Victoria, Midsumma will continue to deliver the event on behalf of the Victorian Government.
The new event date also coincides with the last day of Midsumma Festival 2022, allowing us to end next year’s festival in true style with a big party! We can’t wait to celebrate with you and as many of our LGBTQIA+ communities and friends for Melbourne Pride on Sunday 13 February. We will continue to update you on the event through our eNews, social channels and event page as details transpire.
Take care,
The Midsumma Festival Team
