For News and Stories that Matter to You! The Alex Press is a new online platform that has been set up to support our local community and the businesses within the City of Port Phillip.
The Alex Press is an initiative from the Creative Hub at the Alex Theatre developed in collaboration with Alex Read Theatre Performances Inc and The Toorak Times.
Over the last 18 months with the COVID outbreak and the fear of rolling lockdowns we have felt that our voice has not been heard and we know we are not alone when it comes to this. At times it has been hard to find the facts within the news rather than the spin that has been designed to bait a response.
Within the Alex Theatre, we have built a creative hub, people that are passionate about their projects and the community around the City of Port Phillip. With the guidance of Aleksandar Vass OAM, we will be launching The Alex Press and our hope is that it will find a voice within our community as it grows.
Our plan is simple, we build and support a platform and enable local people to contribute stories.
Of course nothing is that easy, we need to build structure and ensure the project can become sustainable by being of value to the local community it services.
Our community is diverse and so are our interests. Take Peter Kalos as an example, he is this amazing teacher and creative but how many people know of him as he takes part in our community. Peter buys coffee supporting local business, encourages people to achieve their best on stage and screen and He makes films all within the City of Port Phillip. He has a story that matters.
Our community is made up of complex individuals, businesses, wildlife, history… stories and given time we want these to be told
We hope to mix this up a little with national and international stories. Not because we want to be like all the other news outlets but because we are all connected and impacted by what happens in other places. This isn’t going to be an easy project to build, however, we believe there is a team of passionate people that will join our Tribe, and given time we will find a balance in the delivery of news and stories that matter to us.
