A big thank you to our volunteers

Through 3 years of COVID restrictions our volunteers have enabled us to keep our emergency programme open and now we’re encouraged that all our programmes are back – opening up more volunteering opportunities.

Thank you to our volunteers

An end of year celebration was held to honour the wonderful work of our volunteers (that’s some of them in the photo above!). Big thanks to the generous people at the South Melbourne Community Chest Op Shop (200 Banks St South Melbourne for your last minute Christmas gifts), who enabled us to truly celebrate our volunteers’ wonderful work. This year their ongoing amazing achievements were also commemorated with a certificate of appreciation. What do our volunteers do? They help people maintain their gardens, they greet people visiting our Emergency Relief programme, in our Community Garden they grow vegetables for our Thursday Open House meal and plants for sale, and they prepare and serve our Thursday night meal.

Students having fun helping others

It’s been our pleasure this year to have students from Star of the Sea College joining us every Thursday to learn the art of preparing desserts for our Thursday night Open House meal. They join us in the afternoon working on the ingredients and mixing some great delicacies. It also means peeling onions! Our Thursday night diners are the winners, expressing appreciation for the filling results. We look forward to welcoming the students back next year.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and encouragement for the new year!
