Students are helping us to continue to aid the community
at Christ Church Mission’s Community Centre, St Kilda

Hello Mick

Here’s an end of financial year note to you about what’s happening in our Centre on Acland Street.  As winter settles in, we’re busier than ever—welcoming new faces, supporting our regulars, and creating spaces for people to connect, contribute, and thrive.

Learning through emergency relief

We’re proud to be supporting Bachelor of Community Services students from Acknowledge Education, who are on placement with us. They’re gaining valuable experience while bringing fresh energy and insight to our programs. Their dedication reflects the future of community work, and we’re lucky to have them on board. Say hello to them (below): it can be fun to be learning!

Here are two of our Acknowledge students: Sopana (left) and Suja (right) with our delivery volunteer John.  And that’s pet food on the trolley that John has collected from Pets of the Homeless (which explains the cat and the dog on the boxes!).

Click Here if you would like to join other community members in donating to help us to continue to handle the demand and address the needs.  Donations are tax deductible.

Find out about Neighbourhood Connect
Neighbourhood Connect’s chair-based exercise sessions are a hit led by Lou (above)—offering gentle movement, laughter, and a wonderful way to stay active and connected. Most participants are seniors, bringing wisdom, warmth, and community spirit to everything they do. After exercising, the group shares a hot lunch and dessert, and when time allows, we enjoy a fun activity or outing together. It’s a beautiful mix of wellbeing, friendship, and shared joy.

Diary: 1st Saturday each month
Outside, things are blooming too! Our Plant Market is held on the first Saturday of each month, offering herbs, veggie seedlings, and beautiful indoor plants. It’s a great chance to support our garden program and take a little green home with you.

Winter in St Kilda
Oops!  It’s actually St Kilda in Scotland but we know how they feel!   (But you’d think one of them could have managed a smile………………)

Plenty of ways you can join others in helping us
We love our friends dropping off long life food items (aka “pantry items”) for our Emergency Relief Program.  If that’s not an option for you, tax deductible financial contributions are welcome and another way of helping.
