We’ve been making dreams come true here at Theatre Works! Over the past few months, we’ve teamed up with incredible writers, designers, directors, and performers to bring 23 shows to life for over 6,000 audience members, supporting 150 artists on our stage. You’ve likely seen our program, so you know what we mean. Check it out at www.theatreworks.org.au.

As you know, the performing arts sector is struggling across the board under the weight of the current economic crisis. But we’re not letting that stop us! We have the talent, the skills, and the passion to keep our stage alive with performances that will make you laugh, cry, and feel everything in between. The announcement from La Mama about pausing productions in 2025 has added some pressure, with many looking to us for a home for their work. We’re up for the challenge!

The year ahead sees Theatre Works continuing to deliver a comprehensive, inclusive, and exciting program of theatre. With 19 productions yet to grace our stages, we’re reaching out to you today to support our ambitious endeavours and the artists who make it all possible.

Please join us on this wild ride as Melbourne’s most prolific and exciting theatre for independent artists.
Warm regards,

Dianne Toulson

Join us as we embark on a crucial 40-day mission to raise $40k.

Many of today’s leading theatre directors, actors, designers, producers, and crew launched their careers at Theatre Works. We are a small but mighty team at Theatre Works, who – In the last twelve months alone -have presented 50 productions across our two venues, supported over 1000 independent artists and welcomed over 2000 students to our theatre.

This campaign bolsters our ongoing efforts to support and amplify the voices of ambitious independent theatre artists and innovators. While we are thrilled about the state government-funded redevelopment of our venue—which will enhance accessibility and modernize our facilities—this campaign focuses on our core operations and direct support for artists. The new greenroom and rehearsal room, vital parts of this redevelopment, will be brought to life by the artists you support through this campaign.

Your donation today will provide essential support for indie artists and companies presenting their work with us over the next year.

At Theatre Works, we foster artistic growth by waiving upfront venue costs, sharing box office revenue, enhancing marketing efforts, and providing production support and mentorship. While 15% of our funding is from government sources, and the redevelopment is an exciting advancement, the majority of our operational funding comes from ticket sales, our café, and donations from supporters like you.

This campaign is vital for continuing to empower the independent arts scene. Every donation, whether $4 or $4000, moves us toward our $40k target and makes a substantial impact. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

If donating isn’t an option, sharing this campaign with your network can also greatly help. Every bit of support counts!

Thank you for helping us keep Melbourne’s independent theatre vibrant, thriving and accessible.

With gratitude,
The Theatre Works Team
